7 Steps to Massive Success in Business

One of the most important parts of life is understanding what it takes to be successful. There are many factors that make up success, but there are only a few basic fundamentals to me that have aided in my success and that are what I consider to be Power Principles. This article will take you through how to be massively successful at anything that you do.  Just make sure you follow the steps in sequence and enjoy – massive success is on its way!

Step 1: Live on Purpose Rather Than Obligation

Firstly, you must have passion and purpose in what you do every day. You have to wake up knowing and feeling on purpose. This took me a long time to realize and figure out. There are many people who exist or live life because of obligation every day, and do the same routine day after day and never achieve the results that they want. Conversely, there are those who find their purpose and go out and change the world.

The most successful brands on the planet started out with a purpose, and then became massive money makers, not the other way around. Take Apple, Starbucks, Microsoft. They all started out with a purpose and the money, success and fame came as result of starting the business with a purpose.  Apple wanted to change the world by challenging the status quo every time;  Starbucks wanted to give people a unique coffee experience; and Microsoft wanted to ensure that people could do things more simply and easier with their products. All these companies thrive because of a purpose to help the world and make a difference. So ask yourself the key question: ‘Am I in business to make a difference or purely for the money?’ In my business, we live by the mantra, “When you focus on dollars you will have money to count, and when you focus on people you will have countless dollars.”

Finding your purpose is sometimes considered one of the most difficult things in life. We have been taught in most developed societies to go get educated at school, go to college, get a job and go work and pay taxes. This creates a society of lemmings going out every day doing mostly what they don’t want to do in order to make a living. The majority of people get in a car to go to work every day, spend one to two hours going to a place they do not truly like or resonate with, do a job to make money, then jump in their car, return home and repeat the same process for five or six days a week for a number of years.  Typically, there is little joy or satisfaction in this type of existence.

On the other hand, when you live on purpose every day, you feel that sleep is overrated because going to bed interrupts your day. You awake each day with a bounce in your step ready to go to assist your clients.  My purpose is to assist business owners and entrepreneurs to be massively successful. There is nothing that drives me more than receiving communications from clients saying that their business has skyrocketed because of our 7-step Business Success System.

My definition of living on purpose is doing something that you absolutely love, which feels effortless and is something you would do it even if you were not paid to do it, because you love what it does for other people.

Step 2: Resonate With Your Goals

In order to be massively successful in your business, you must determine what you are targeting or aiming for. You must create a vision for your business. Whether you are a solopreneur or a business with multiple employees, you have to have a vision typed out and put up in your office for where your business is going. The vision is the big picture and where you want to be in the grand scheme of things. When you first start out in business, I am a firm believer that you should have a one year plan and a five year vision. Most business owners do not have a vision for their business, and in fact, most business owners plan their vacations in more detail than they plan their businesses!

Having no vision for your business is equivalent to having your entire family sitting in the fully loaded car waiting to go on vacation, locking up your house, jumping in the driver’s seat, having your spouse ask where you are going and you say on vacation. This means that you could be going anywhere! This scenario describes most business owners on a daily basis: They wake up and do business without a destination in mind. You cannot go on vacation without knowing where you are going and the mode of transport that you are going to use to get there, nor can you do so in your business. When you type out your vision and put it up in a prominent place, it allows your spouse, team, employees, clients and vendors know where you are going so that they are able assist you with fulfilling your vision.

The most important part of creating your vision is ensuring that you resonate with the end goal. This keeps you on target and does not allow you to be distracted by bright shiny objects. Many business owners often chase other opportunities or change businesses because they do not have an end goal with which they resonate. This is the most important part of any business plan and will keep you focused and on track to achieve your desired result.

Once you have the vision for your business created and written down, you can then add your mission, which is the step-by-step process for fulfilling your vision. A business with a vision that takes no action operates on hallucination and a business with a ton of action and no vision is clueless!

Step 3: Design a Plan

Once you have a vision for your business that you completely resonate with, I recommend writing down your plan to achieve your vision. If you are just starting out in business, always begin with a business plan which focuses on the next twelve months. Ideally you want a five year vision, but start with a one year plan, because within your first year your business in guaranteed to morph into something that you did not exactly envision, which is good.

Remember, a business plan guides you along the journey to achieving your vision. It is like a road map or itinerary for your vacation. You cannot go on vacation without knowing where you are going and how you are going to get there. It is the same for your business, you must have a vision you resonate with and a plan that you can action to ensure you fulfill your vision.

Step 4: Growing Your Knowledge

I wish we were born with every bit of knowledge that we need to be successful, but we are not. You need to continually grow your knowledge by learning from others who have achieved what you want to achieve. The powerful part about learning from others is that it saves you a ton of time and money – you do not have to make the same mistakes! There are many trainers and educators out there who can assist you; the critical part is to find the ones who have achieved success in the areas you are looking for advice. I personally have mentors assisting me to grow to the next level of success and I change them every now and again to bring on new mentors who have gone to even greater levels of success.

The challenging part I have both seen and experienced with people is that they ask for advice and attend seminars and trainings, yet they do not implement what they have learned. Implementation of what you have learned is vitally important. Otherwise, you are just wasting your time and money.  I have a formula that I like to use; whatever the duration of the training, ensure you put the same amount of time aside after it to implement all the new knowledge, strategies and systems. For example, if you go on a three day course, put aside the three days immediately after the course to implement everything.

Step 5: Holding Yourself on Course

This is a vital part to getting the results you want and to achieving your vision for your business. You must find a group of like-minded business owners who can assist you with staying on track. Being a business owner can be extremely lonely and sometimes daunting, because you may not have a team around you to ask questions and receive good solid answers to grow your business. In fact, many business owners are embarrassed that their business is not truly making the money that they want, so often they do not discuss it with their spouse or significant other. We are all in business to make a difference in the world and make money, but doing it alone is not the easiest and quickest way to achieving your vision. Seek out business accountability groups, like B.E.S.T. Mindset, which work specifically with entrepreneurs, to ensure you achieve the success you want and the support that you are looking for.

Step 6: Celebration, Acknowledgement & Recognition

This is probably the most neglected step in the entire process, and yet it is one of the most important. I live by universal principles which dictate that what you put out there is what you get back. Therefore, when you acknowledge and celebrate your successes, the universe gives you more to celebrate about. I advise creating a daily habit whereby you celebrate what you achieved the day before to keep you on track and to get you into the habit of celebrating. Even the smallest of successes need to be celebrated to continue to put out into the Universe that you want more to celebrate – and guess what – it always delivers!

It is also essential to recognize your daily achievements and write them down. You will soon start to see that a bunch of small daily successes turns into massive recognition and acknowledgement for what you have achieved. You will be amazed what you have achieved on a monthly basis when you write them down daily.

Step 7: Grow Personally

I live by the principle that until you grow personally, it is not easy to grow professionally. Simply put, the more you work on yourself and expand your mindset, the quicker and more easily you will grow your business. One of the most common things I say from stage is, “Business is really simple, until you add human beings!” Yes, we make things extremely complicated. So, I encourage you to keep working on yourself and attend personal development workshops to increase your awareness about you. You will realize that the biggest challenge in your business is the way you think. The quicker you shift your thinking the sooner your business will achieve massive levels of success!

Bonus Step: Principles I Live By

I often get asked, “Colin, what is the number one principle that has contributed to your massive success?” It is a very simple answer:  I’ve followed and continue to follow all of the above steps and I never give up until I’ve achieved my goals.  I do not let anything get in my way.

Hurdles or challenges are opportunities to learn and I always ask the question, “What am I meant to learn from this situation?” I take the learning move on and continue to implement. I am results focused and not excuse poisoned.  Focus on asking yourself “How can I?” versus saying “I can’t!”

Most of all I do not overthink everything!  My process is to think, make a decision and take action with urgency – there is no grass that grows under my feet!.
