Goodbye & Hello
By: Craig Skauge
We all have those numbers that we dread seeing come up on our call display…. It might be our mother-in-law, our personal trainer, heck for some of us it might be our spouse or kids. Almost all of our members have one number in common though, a number that constantly showed up on their displays in the last year and that was of WEMA’s hired gun Ben Armstrong. Whether he was calling to pitch you on membership, ask you to write a letter, or get your opinion on a particular topic, a call from Ben was not a rarity in the last 12 months.
Ben was given no small task of uniting a newly created industry where many of the key players are ex-partners and in some cases even enemies. Despite what must have seemed like insurmountable odds at times, Ben didn’t let up and helped bring our industry together as the unified body we all needed.
We were all sad to see Ben part ways with our association at the end of May and whether or not he’ll return is still up in the air. What is for certain though is that we all owe a great deal of gratitude to Ben for helping lead the charge and bring our industry together in an organized fashion. Whether he stays or goes, he has left a positive mark on our industry. Ben was a catalyst in getting WEMA off the ground and our industry owes him our thanks…no one more than me. With that, thank you Ben for all your hard work. We wish you the best in your future endeavors and I’m sure that there are many doors open for you in this industry should you choose to remain here.
If you’re sighing with relief that you won’t be getting calls to action as regularly though…hold up for just a second.
I’m happy to announce the hiring of Cora Pettipas, WEMAs VP of Member Services. We feel very fortunate to have Cora on board and we will also be welcoming her as a board member at our upcoming AGM this summer. In addition to her shining personality, Cora’s background in financial planning, financial education, and the umpteen credential related letters behind her name will undoubtedly make her a huge asset to our association and industry. Please join me in welcoming her with open arms.
